Below is the way in which we use Pre-Vodcasting in our classrooms. As we have implemented the Pre-Vodcasting method we have encountered several hurdles that we want to share so that others can avoid some of our challenges.

  1. Creating the Vodcasts: There are a number of different programs available to create vodcasts and many of them are listed HERE. We use a program called Snapkast which has proven to be the most convenient and least cumbersome way for us to produce our vodcasts.
    1. True Collaboration: Last year was the first year we worked together. Before school even began we decided that working together and using common curriculum was much better than working in isolation. As a result, we were able to develop a Chemistry curriculum that incorporated elements that we had each used in the past, as well as unique elements we each brought to the table. Both of us had to learn a few new teaching strategies and implement them in order to maintain consistency. This proved to be essential as we began to Pre-Vodcast.
    2. Divide and Conquer: In order to make Pre-Vodcasting a reasonable undertaking we decided to split up the task of creating the vodcasts. We had to ensure that we knew what the other was teaching in the vodcast so we could better assist our students when they had questions. Fortuantely, we were able to work much of our idiosycnricies out the previous year. Now we take turns creating vodcasts: Jon will do an AP Chem unit, Aaron will do a Chem unit, then we switch.
    3. Increased Exposure: By trading responsisbilities our students now have two instructors, two perspectives, and two resources. On a daily basis we tutor each other’s student when the oter is not available.
